May 20, 2005 -This is bad!
Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be given a map to their house. Everyone should be aware of this! Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing my telephone number in google.com. My phone number came up, and when I clicked on the MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live. Quite scary. Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about it--if a child, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: http://www.google.com/ Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the Phonebook Results of your number listed in red. Click on the Phonebook Removal Form.Removal takes 48-hours. If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there, but it is a good idea just to check. If your number does come up if you hit map, it will show you a direct map to your house... Please forward this info on to friends and family.

May 12, 2005 What is this? ~Mel blogging daily?!? Ye gods and little fishes!

Greetings kittens. This is going to be a mish-mash of what's going on at the moment. heh I'm listening to Tori Amos live and kicking back.
My other domain, heart-stricken.net has been down for 2 days. Tasha, who hosts that domain for me, also has no site. Hmmm. The cybergods need appeasing.
I got a letter from Jeremy. He's scared, depressed, bored and homesick. There are no other deaf in Lorain where he is for 30 days until they decide where to put him. I can't begin to articulate my feelings about him and his situation. They are too primal and raw to be put into words. At least for now. *takes deep cleansing breath*
I've been playing with tables and came up with an interesting border effect at my fae site. I'm still not sure how I did it but I will have it memorized eventually. :P I tweaked and fine-tuned One Ring to rule them all and it's pretty sharp. All hand coded, by golly. I love to play with html just as much as I like to play with words. The things you can create...
Shameless site promotion: (first 3 blogs, last 4 graphic intense interesting sites I've found in my wanderings)
The Green Lantern -news-politics-arts-music-the unexplained Jen @ superflicious.com -interesting blog by my pal in Canada Friday's Child-Easy On MS Eyes -dear inspiring Sooz The Official Website of Loreena McKennitt -another goddess RandomSoul.com -a beautiful collective CindyB's Designs -pretty graphics, adoptables, etc. Elëntari -Elëntari is the 'Star-Queen'...
Lastly, I leave you with a scene from LOTR The Two Towers EE that I find especially endearing. Ah, to be a Hobbit...Westu hál.

(Sam and Frodo climb down a giant rock in the Emyn Muil using Sam’s rope from Lothlorien. The bottom is shrouded in mist and fog. Frodo is first.)
Sam: Can you see the bottom?
Frodo: No! Don’t look down, Sam! Just keep going.
(Sam slips and a box drops from his bag.)
Sam: Catch it. Grab it Mr Frodo!
(Frodo manages to grab the box and looses his footing while at it.)
Frodo: Ahhhh!
Sam: Mr Frodo?
(Frodo lands safely on the ground and looks up.)
Frodo: I think I’ve found the bottom.
(Sam climbs down quickly to Frodo. Frodo looks around at the surroundings.)
Sam: Bogs and rope and goodness knows what. It’s not natural. None of it.
Frodo: (looking at the box) What’s in this?
Sam: Nothing. Just a bit of seasoning. I thought maybe if we was having a roast chicken one night or something.
Frodo: Roast chicken?!?
Sam: You never know.
Frodo: (smiling and shaking his head) Sam, my dear Sam.
Sam: It’s very special, that. It’s the best salt in all the Shire.
Frodo: It is special. It’s a little bit of home.

May 11, 2005 Wednesday Mind Hump

This week, a little "getting-to-know-you" hump with an insane twist.
01. How old is your blogging chair. Is it like an old friend or would you like to have a new one? If you'd like a new chair, describe your "dream" chair.
Mine is a recliner and it's about 7 years old. I've had it since I first discovered computers in 1998 when I was married to Mike. It's getting tired, I'd like more of a desk chair, but that takes money and well never mind. I type with my keyboard in my lap and my mouse on my right side with my feet up. It's comfy. My "dream chair" would be something like a large chair that you see in corporate offices. Those chairs look so comfortable.
02. Reality shows -- we love them, we hate them. IF there was a reality show about bloggers, would you watch it? If you had the opportunity, would you accept if asked to participate? Why or why not?
>_< I HATE Fear Factor. I don't watch television at all anymore. If I did, it would only be Court TV, A&E, Discovery and History channels. About bloggers? Hmmm. Wouldn't that take away the anonymity that you get from the internet? I would never want to participate because I'm way too private and shy and no way would I want people to scrutinize my lack of a life. No.
03. It's said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." In the dictionary beauty is defined as: the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. Going by that definition, in your opinion, who are "the beautiful people" (or person) and what is the most beautiful and awe inspiring sight you've ever beheld?
Woman : Angelina Jolie -she is beautiful, and activist and a good bad girl. I never wanted to kiss a women before until I saw her. :P Man: Bradley! *cough* Brad Pitt -he's breath-taking, not a bad actor and is quirky in a good way. Singer: Tori Amos -she comforts, inspires and refreshes me. Her music is my best friend.
Heroes: John Douglas -The Mindhunter who helped catch the depraved among us. "...much of my time is spent doing pro bono work for victims of violent crime and their families, advising pardon and parole boards, and speaking to law enforcement groups about the value of behavioral science in their work." John Walsh, Robert K. Ressler, who hunt and catch human predators and sociopaths. Ann Rule who writes about them and keeps us informed.
Finally, the most beautiful and awe inspiring sight I've ever beheld was the birth of my son. No contest.
Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar!

May 5, 2005 "Whatever you did, you've been officially labeled a disturber of the peace."
Wow. I've been watching the appendices dvds of the Fellowship Of The Ring Extended Edition and they just blow me away. I love how they explain Tolkien's thinking and how brilliant the man was to come up with his own world (Middle Earth), and it's history, cultures and languages. How blessed we are that Peter Jackson, (the same man who made the unrated version of the gorefest "Dead Alive"--I was flabbergasted when I realized that), had the vision and support to turn the story into films that captured the spirit and magic of Tolkien. These films were made with incredible preparation and thought and also a lot of love. By some stroke of good fortune or just plain good luck or some convergence of the planets, a group of intelligent, caring people were able to get together to create a cinematic masterpiece. These films are now part of our culture just as the books have been for decades. I am in awe, can you tell? :P
Now when I watch the films, I only watch the EE versions always in sequence. (I gave my theatrical versions to the Puppy Couple.) I let the credits roll so I can hear that glorious score by Howard Shore. I have immersed myself in this magical world and even though it's major theme is death; the hope, the bravery and the kinship are what refresh me. It seems a better world than this real one where my son is in prison and I am a recluse. What with The Shire, Lothlorien and Edoras, there are many places and substories within Middle Earth to escape into. But that is the purpose of fantasy, is it not?
From The Two Towers EE -Éowyn chants in Rohirric at Théodred's funeral:
Bealocwealm hafað fréone frecan forth onsended giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende on Meduselde þæt he ma no wære his dryhtne dyrest and mæga deorost. Bealo...
An evil death has set forth the noble warrior A song shall sing sorrowing minstrels in Meduseld that he is no more, to his lord dearest and kinsmen most beloved. An evil death...
